A Spotlight on our Support Worker, Jennifer - Afea Care Services
November 7th 2023

If you attended our Afea Ohana Lunch, you might remember Afea Carer Jennifer, who was awarded Support Worker of the Month!

She was also awarded our Support Worker of the Year for 2023.

Originally from Colombia, Jennifer believes her outgoing nature is one reason why her clients enjoy her company.

As a carer, Jennifer provides personal care, light housecleaning and community support so our clients with disability can safely access the community.

“I treat my clients the way I’d want to be treated if I were in their shoes,” she shares. “What I appreciate most about Afea is the sense of safety and the experienced team that’s always there to support me in any situation.”

While she has a zest for life, please don’t serve her spicy food! “People often assume I can handle spicy food because I’m from South America, but I can’t even handle a drop of Tabasco!”

Can you tell us about yourself?

I’m originally from Colombia, specifically Santa Marta, a lively and friendly city in the Caribbean. I believe my outgoing nature is one reason why my clients enjoy my company. I moved to Australia four years ago and love it here, although I miss my family dearly. I’m a bit of a daddy’s girl and stay connected with them through the internet. Fun fact: People often assume I can handle spicy food because I’m from South America. But I can’t even handle a drop of Tabasco!

This is my first formal experience in the aged care and NDIS sector. Before this, I helped care for an elderly couple informally.

I discovered Afea through a friend who works here. She asked if I’d be interested in becoming a carer, so I checked out your website and decided to give it a try. I’m thrilled to be a part of the Afea family.

What do you like best about being a carer?

What I love most about being a carer is that I can make a difference in people’s lives by being empathetic, respectful, and kind. I treat my clients the way I’d want to be treated if I were in their shoes.

What do you like best about Afea?

What I appreciate most about Afea is the sense of safety and the experienced team that’s always there to support me in any situation. It’s a comforting environment to work in.
