Thank you to all who joined us at our Afea Ohana Lunch!
We celebrated our 15th anniversary by hosting a feast for our ohana (“family”) on Sunday, 22 October in Parramatta.
This special event is also part of our National Carers Week (15 to 21 October) celebrations, to show our appreciation of our caregivers and support workers.
We welcomed over 240 guests composed of Afea staff, support workers, family members and community partners in the disability and aged care industry.
Event attendees enjoyed a buffet lunch, performances, goody bags, games and raffle draws with more than $1,400 worth of prizes.
Support Worker of the Month
We hold monthly virtual events to name our Support Worker of the Month, but we used the special occasion to invite Jennifer Castilblanco, Support Worker of the Month for the month of September, to receive her award onstage.
“I’m very happy to be a part of this organisation,” she said.
Afea’s Future
Afea Founder Esha Oberoi and Executive Director Gaurav Oberoi also took to the stage to welcome attendees and introduce Afea’s new CEO, Hiyantha “Sam” Kariyawasam.
“This is Afea’s future: more engagement, deeper connections, more meaningful avenues to empower the people in our community,” Sam said.
We would like to thank our generous Afea Ohana Lunch prize sponsors: Auburn Central, Chatkazz, Checho’s, Fairfield RSL, Five Loaves, Grounds Keeper Café, Restaurant 317, Sahra by the River, St Marys Village, Vertic and Wenty Leagues.
