Afea wins at Sydney Disability Staff Awards - Afea Care Services
June 22nd 2023

We are thrilled to share that our very own Jack Mhanna won the “Above and Beyond” award at the 2023 Sydney Disability Staff Recognition Awards, the most prestigious awards event in the disability sector.

Jack received the award during a gala ceremony at Doltone House hosted by the National Disability Leadership Organisation (NDLO).

Going Above and Beyond

Each year, the awards play “a pivotal role in nominating the amazing work done within the sector and some of the key individuals that often go unrecognised”, according to the NDLO.

The Above and Beyond category recognises an individual who has gone “above and beyond” what is expected in their normal range of responsibilities. At Afea, Jack manages a team that collectively supports more than 300 people with disabilities across Sydney.

Jack previously worked in the luxury brand industry before joining Afea in 2020. He shares that his work in the disability sector is “more meaningful and fulfilling”.

Celebrating the Disability Sector

The Awards Gala was hosted by the National Disability Leadership Organisation

“I am very honoured to receive this award,” he said. “I am proud to have this chance to celebrate the sector and the people who push themselves further to make a difference in someone else’s life. A special thank you to Afea Care Services for their support.”

“We feel fortunate at Afea to be working with inspiring individuals like Jack,” Afea’s Head of People and Culture Joseph Assad said. “He is consistently nominated by his peers for Employee of the Month because he epitomises leading with your heart, going above and beyond his duties to support his colleagues and clients.”

The awards gala also served as a fundraiser for the Australian Paralympic Team and featured a guest appearance by comedy icon, Tim Ferguson.

Congratulations, Jack! We are so proud of you!
