A Spotlight on our Carer, Aidha | Afea Care Services
August 29th 2022

Meet Aidha! Aidha has been working as a carer at Afea for nearly two years, but she has decades of experience in community work, having been serving as a volunteer teacher for her local Indonesian community for 20 years.

“My aim is not money,” Aidha shares. “Of course, everyone needs money, right? But for me, it’s not the priority. I like helping!”

She believes that “if you do a good deed, the same kindness will return to you, in whatever form.”

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? What led you to Afea?

I have been working for Afea for almost two years now.

I was working as an Early Childhood Teacher, but had to stop to home school my children. I suddenly had plenty of time on my hands. I enrolled in a certificate course for Individual Support, but due to the pandemic was not able to finalise my work placements.

Later on, a friend of mine recommended Afea. They had been working at Afea as a support worker and were very happy, so I applied based on their recommendation, and got the job.

What do you like most about Afea?

I like helping others and I think it suits me well. I can choose the shifts. If I needed to step back from work, I can tell my Coordinator and they will look after me.

My aim is not money. Of course, everyone needs money, right? But for me, it’s not the priority. I like helping! I have years of experience in community work. I am Indonesian, and for 20 years I have been volunteering to support the Indonesian community. I teach a Quran class for two to three hours every Saturday as a volunteer teacher.

What is your proudest moment at Afea as carer?

I had a client referred to me who turned out to be one of my neighbours. I didn’t even know they were living with a condition that requires them to have a support worker. I was a bit embarrassed, and it opened my eyes. You don’t really know your neighbours. You don’t know what people are going through. But at least with my work, I am able to support them and support the community. That’s what I’m proudest of.
