Daniel visited the Afea office for a meeting with his Support Coordinator, Ivania Choi, and brought his beautiful handmade cards. Hopefully, we’ll be able to purchase Daniel’s incredible pieces from his own shop soon!
Watch our short clip below.
“When I first met Daniel, he was making Christmas decorations and I find them really nice and wonderful,” shares Ivania. “Something that I would actually buy in a shop. So I keep encouraging him to do some kind of artwork.”
Daniel and Ivania have been working together for a year. “She’s fantastic,” Daniel says.
To assist Daniel with his future goal of setting up his own small business, Ivania helped him enroll in a government-funded self-employment assistance program.
Other tasks Ivania undertook to support Daniel include:
- Helped him organise repairs at home
- Encouraged him to go to appointments by public transport to support his independence
- Connected him with professional cleaning and gardening NDIS providers
- Researched social art groups in the community and encouraged Daniel to attend
- Organised a psychologist to provide support for symptoms of depression and anxiety
Ivania and Daniel are currently working together to confirm a secondary diagnosis with the NDIS and ensure Daniel receives appropriate support.
We’re cheering you on, Daniel!
