When asked how her close friends would describe her in three words, our Support Coordinator Laurence says they would be, “Loyal, outgoing, friendly.”
Definitely the three words you would want to describe your advocate in the NDIS!
She has experience supporting NDIS participants with complex support needs, including individuals living with brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple scoliosis and complex psychosocial diagnoses.
“As a Support Coordinator, my role is pretty much to coordinate supports for the clients, find them the right supports to meet their specific needs, making sure that they can live the life that they deserve. Make them feel included and empowered. That’s what I love about my job, it’s rewarding.”
Learn more about Laurence in our interview.
She has been working as a support coordinator for more than three years. With a bachelor’s degree in science, Laurence worked for many years in clinical and administrative roles before working in the NDIS sector.
“I’m passionate about person-centred care,” she shares. “I love helping people and I love the interaction with people.”
‘Strong work culture’
Having worked in healthcare for many years, we ask her what sets Afea apart from other providers.
“Apart from the fact that Afea really care about their clients, and they genuinely care about their clients, I also find that there’s also a really strong work culture, and that’s what I like.
“Everyone’s quite friendly. I can have a chat with the CEO at lunchtime.
“So I like that family, friendly sort of culture that Afea brings.”
Laurence outside of work
People may be surprised to learn that Laurence is actually a twin. “We are very close, we would probably speak two to three times a day, so she’s actually my best friend.”
She says that she loves being a twin, but it can also be “tricky”, especially when she gets mistaken for her twin at the shops!
Outside of work, “apart from cleaning up after my children who are both teenagers, I love working out, I love keeping fit so I’d go for long walks to work out, and I love shopping.”
Thanks, Laurence!
