April 27th 2023

Meet Gyanendra “Daniel” Humagain, our Client Intake Manager based in Melbourne!

Formerly living in Sydney, Daniel moved interstate with his family and is now one of the Afeans leading our Melbourne expansion.

He has a wealth of experience in providing NDIS and care services directly to our clients, first joining the organisation as a support worker in 2009 before becoming a Support Coordinator and Care Manager.

In his first role as Afea Carer, Daniel provided personal care and helped clients with meal preparation and social and community access, giving him insight into the types of support individuals need in order to live comfortably and independently at home.

Learn more about him in our interview below.

Hi, I’m Gyanendra Humagain, people call me Daniel. Daniel is my nickname. I’m working as a Client Intake Manager at the moment. I’m based in Melbourne.

Daniel’s Afea Journey

I started working with Afea in 2009, I started as a support worker. I rejoined Afea in 2019 as a Support Coordinator, then I started work as a Care Manager. And because of my family, had to leave again and then there was a new opportunity in Afea and I decided to just jump in, and I’m loving it, what I’m doing at the moment.

I’m from Nepal and in our country, there is no nursing home. So we look after people at our own place. I’ve seen my mum and dad taking care of my grandparents. I’m a loving person I thought this would be the right career to go with.

His Role as Client Intake Manager

I’m based in Melbourne and Afea has extended its program in Melbourne. My role is basically to meet the clients and prepare a care plan and find the right staff to support the clients.

I meet with the carers and also discuss their current issues and resolve them as it comes.

What’s the best thing about Afea?

I think the best thing about Afea is that they look after their staff as well as they look after their clients.

I’ve worked in different organisations and I’ve realized that I’ve never had my care plan. So, when I joined Afea they have their own staff care plan, which I thought it’s amazing. If I can’t look after myself or if I don’t take care of myself, I can’t look after others.

I thought this would be the best place for me to work because they look after you and they care about you.
