Say hello to our Care Manager and Registered Nurse, Gillian!

Gillian has been working as an RN for eight years and recently returned from her maternity leave. Now with a one-year-old bundle of joy, she feels refreshed but also as if no time has passed, with clients welcoming her fondly like an old friend.

She says she loves travelling because it offers her a new perspective: “Everywhere in the world, there is always a different story and different life experiences.”

As Care Manager – RN at Afea, Gillian provides training to our support workers to ensure they can provide safe and high-quality services to our clients requiring complex care.

Hi, everyone.

I’m one of the Care Managers and Registered Nurses from Afea.

I joined Afea in October 2019, been working as a registered nurse for more than eight years. I did Bachelor of Nursing Advanced Study at the University of Sydney. After that I completed my master’s in Public Health.

Working at Afea as a registered nurse

I think every day is quite different, and that’s what I like about this job.

My role is quite active, so most of the time I’m going to be on the road meeting clients.

Also another part of my role is doing carer training, maintaining the high quality, high standard care ability of our team to provide the clinical, complex care services for our clients.

I have a one-year-old daughter. I took a year off for maternity leave and look after my daughter. It was quite refreshing actually to be able to get back to work and back to my role again.

Returning after a year-long leave

I see my colleagues, everyone is so supportive. Through my time working at Afea, I have a lot of memorable client experience. With one client, I onboarded him, when I came back after my maternity leave, he still remembered me, he’s still having the services from Afea, and I was able to actually recall the memories with him, like an old friend that I’m seeing again.

My hobby is that I love travelling, the best place that I travelled to is America.
