How Afea support is helping Peter focus on his creativity - Afea Care Services
June 13th 2023

Peter has been an Afea client since 2019. As an NDIS participant, his goals include accessing the community and becoming more social, and having regular assistance in maintaining a safe environment at home.

“When they rang me up and said I was going to get into the NDIS, I was really happy,” Peter shares with us. “It helps me with my support. It’s paying for my support workers from Afea and my other needs.”

His support workers assist with a variety of tasks, including changing his bed linens, helping with laundry, unpacking groceries, encouraging him to make healthy food choices and accompanying him around the local area.

With compassionate support from his Afea Carers, Peter is able to continue his creative pursuits, which includes painting, sculpting and drawing.

How did you find out about Afea?

My Support Coordinator told me that I can get help going about the community and all that, and he recommended Afea to me.

Are you happy with your services so far?

I am. They take me shopping and to the doctor. They help me cook and they help me wash my clothes. At night, I see the support worker and they help me with my dinner. That’s why I’m so happy to have them.

Are they friendly towards you?

Of course! I’m friendly to them and they’re friendly to me. I talk to them correctly and they talk to me correctly.

What do you usually cook?

One day I had tacos. Sometimes they cook me fish. I usually have dinner in the freezer and they can heat that up for me.

Do you have any favourite dishes?

No, I love them all. I mainly eat fish, beef, chicken. I can’t eat too much because of my diabetes, so I need to watch what I eat.

Do you have any hobbies?

I do painting on Friday. My sister takes me painting on Friday. I love painting. I love painting, sculpting, drawing. I’ve been doing them since I was four.

Since you were four? You must be very good, then.

I am very good at what I do.

Thank you for your time, Peter!
