From Carer to Care Coordinator: Yesenia | Afea Care Services
January 7th 2022

Yesenia first joined Afea as a carer in January 2020 and is now thriving in her role as Care Coordinator! In this role, she works with our clients and matches them with support workers or carers who can best support their needs.

Being a carer or support worker is a rewarding job that is ideal for people who require flexibility with their hours. It is a good starting point for disability support work, and can provide foundational experience for those who want to transition to full-time and leadership roles, just like Yesenia!

Read on to learn more about Yesenia’s journey from carer to care coordinator.

What led you to becoming a carer?

I have always wanted to help people! Coming from a retail background, I was all about customer service. But being a carer and supporting people with individual needs was always something I have been passionate about.

Why did you decide to become a Care Coordinator?

I wanted to challenge myself in a different role but within the same industry.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned when you transitioned roles?

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt would have to be that both roles are very challenging but rewarding in different ways. Building and having a good relationship and communicating with carers is extremely important and valuable.

What is your proudest moment at Afea as a Carer? As a Care Coordinator?

I am continuously having proud moments, so I can’t just choose one! The ones that stand out to me would be those moments where I see my clients learning new skills and achieving their goals. Seeing them smile and appreciate my care are some of the most rewarding and proudest moments for me.
