A Spotlight on our Support Worker, Stephanie - Afea Care Services
June 27th 2023

Meet Stephanie! Before joining Afea as a support worker, Stephanie worked in before and after school care, supporting children in various centres around the Newcastle region. After moving to Sydney in early 2022, Stephanie wanted to continue assisting families, and joined Afea.

“One of my clients always tells me it’s the little things in life,” Stephanie shares. “This is 100% true. I am so proud of all the little things that I experience being a carer…I am truly blessed to work with people who strive to achieve their goals and try to make every day enjoyable.”

Outside of work, she enjoys a number of hobbies, from gardening to op shopping to crocheting! Keep reading to learn more about Stephanie.

Can you tell us about yourself?

I’m 21 years old. I only moved to Sydney at the beginning of last year and have been working with Afea ever since. I spend a lot of my free time gardening, op shopping, reading and crocheting. I love listening to live music and having a little boogie!

Before Afea, did you have previous experience working in aged care/the NDIS sector?

My first experience working in the sector is with Afea. Before Afea, I worked in before and after school care. I worked at multiple OOSH [Out of School Hours] centres around the Newcastle region.

How did you find out about Afea?

I was looking into becoming a support worker when I found an NSW government initiative called More Jobs More Care.

MJMC is a program that aims to get more people into caring roles within the NDIS sector in NSW. Once I had completed the pre-employment training with Apprenticeships Australia, I was told about Afea. I completed my interview and started working.

What is your proudest moment at Afea as a carer?

I wouldn’t say I have a single proudest moment. I am constantly made to feel proud of all the people I work with. One of my clients always tells me it’s the little things in life. This is 100% true. I am so proud of all the little things that I experience being a carer. All of the shared precious moments throughout my time with Afea.

What do you like best about the company?

Afea is an amazing company, I am truly blessed to work with people who strive to achieve their goals and try to make every day enjoyable. The work I do is acknowledged by other Afea staff members and my clients. I am proud to work in such a great work environment.
